Breakfast in the dining room at Foyer Franciscan, our accommodation last night. Here we met up with a fellow pilgrim walking all the way to Rome. He’s planning on walking up from Bourge St Pierre to the Hospice, despite the road not being open. The monks there at the Hospice say it’s doable without snow shoes so we plan to give it a go.
Foyer Franciscan is an adjunct to the St. Maurice Abbaye. The only monks here are very old with few new recruits are taking up the vocation so the new use of their massive accommodation is conferences and Pilgrims’ lodging. While here on the Pentecost weekend there was a large group of 70-80, including children from the Coptic Church and a big group of Vietnamese.
This was the stunning outlook from our St. Maurice accommodation at Foyer Franciscan.
We’ve walked a lot today through forests and over rivers.
Could have followed many walking routes.
On roads, paths and forest floors – wherever we go we are surrounded by these enormous snow capped mountains.
We’ve seen big waterfalls.
Rapidly flowing creeks.
Interesting potted gardens.
Interested Lama’s.
Meadows, towering mountains and shaded walking paths – these were all part of today’s beautiful walk.
